Jefferson happy to be ‘relevant’ again

Ex-Wildcat Richard Jefferson, traded Tuesday from the Milwaukee Bucks to San Antonio, said he grew up as a Spurs fan because David Robinson was his favorite player.
There’s that, and there are also the connections with former Arizona superstars Sean Elliott and Steve Kerr. Elliott won the NBA title with the Spurs in 1999; Kerr helped the Spurs to titles in 1999 and 2003, when San Antonio beat Jefferson’s New Jersey Nets’ team.
Jefferson was asked at his introductory press conference in San Antonio on Wednesday afternoon if he had reached out to Elliott, who is a Spurs television analyst, for information on the team and the city.
“No, I haven’t really,” Jefferson said.
“But with Sean and Steve and all those guys, we’re a pretty close-knit group. … I watched Sean and knew him from all those years at Arizona, and Steve, he always jokes with me that the last game he ever played against me was when he won a championship.
“I was very familiar with a lot of guys on this team and all the great things they had to say about the organization and coach (Gregg) Popovich.”
Naturally, Jefferson was pleased to be traded to a team that is expected to contend for the Western Conference title.
“You just want to be relevant again,” Jefferson said.
“When I came into the league, I didn’t really realize how fortunate I was. I went from a Final Four and playing for a championship in college to two straight NBA Finals. It was such a blur those first few years.”

Good news is us folks on the west coast will get to see him play more often, bad news is he’ll be on the Suns worst nightmare, the Spurs. I always thought he would be a great fit in Phoenix, to bad Kerr didn’t think the same thing.
Wondering what Jordan is thinking now that the Wizards traded the 5th pick, maybe this will keep him on the left coast and give us some more opps to see him play.
