Jefferson clears up marriage rumors on Dan Patrick Show
Former UA forward Richard Jefferson came on the Dan Patrick Show this morning to discuss the recent news of him backing out of his wedding that was scheduled July 11.
There was not an 11th-hour decision and he did not lend his friends his black American Express card, Jefferson said. He said that the breakup occurred a week before the wedding was scheduled and all their friends and family knew about it by Tuesday, July 7.
Jefferson told Patrick that he is upset that “I lost my best friend.” He admitted that he e-mailed the breakup to his ex-fiancee Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols, a former Nets dancer. But he said he wrote the e-mail to get all his thoughts down on the situation. He said he talked to Nichols for two hours after she read the e-mail.
The reported six-figure payment he made to Nichols is true, but Jefferson did not do it as a payoff, he said. He gave her the money so she can get her own apartment in New York and get her life started again.
In the interview, Jefferson also addressed questions about his sexuality after news of the breakup was reported. He was obviously incensed about the false accusations and reports of his breakup and how he handled the situation with his friends.
UPDATE: Here’s another story from the New York Post. “There was a lot of stress and tension in the relationship,” Jefferson said. “We’ve been through a lot — but we just couldn’t continue.”

Nice follow up Javy.
So, it was not a pay off.
Did you read the document she had to sign in order to get PAID.
But, VERY good move RJ.
So, you should have your head on straight and get ready for some ball with the SPURS..
My boy ..SE….can YOU hook him up?
A nice southern lady would do the trick.
But, no gold diggers please. Nothing from the ATL. No Way.
Southern ladies age much better. Right Sean?
Peace…
(I still can not believe that you and David R. were at the Tuxedo place on Grant…prior to your wedding. She was a UofA cheerleader?)

RJ is definitely trying to clear his name and take hold of this PR battle. He was also on Howard Stern this morning. He gave a great interview and I don’t think this is an issue of me listening with a UA bias. He spoke very well as he tried to clear things up. He said the wedding “didn’t even cost a 1/4 of what is being reported” ($2M) and also said that the AmEx story was bogus. He did pay for his friends to go out for a big dinner that night and did give Keisha some money to get back on her feet.
He said that they have broken up and gotten back together many times in their relationship and that he was just trying to do the right thing. He handled the subject really well and also made the very good point that had he gone through with the wedding and then gotten divorced 6 months later, this wouldn’t have even been a story, which is true. Instead he tried to prevent future pain and an increase in the US divorce rate. He said that the breakup was known several days before the wedding and that the media is just taking this and running with it, as they are prone to do. Howard was squarely in RJ’s corner and was calling him a “hero” for having the courage to do the right thing and prevent another doomed marriage. A very good interview for RJ.
Other tidbits- Howard pressed RJ on his $3.5M donation to the UA and RJ deflected a bit and responded that it was indeed a very generous gift, but that he was being careful with his money and wouldn’t be making any similar large donations. When asked about his previous experiences with the ladies, RJ kind of laughed and just said that “the University of Arizona was a very fun place”.

Double the pleasure–
“According to multiple sources, ESPNU Super 60 point guard Josiah Turner has decided to re-open his recruitment. Turner had pledged to Arizona State following his sophomore season.
The 6-foot-2 Turner originally chose the Sun Devils over Santa Clara and Marquette and will now consider Arizona.”

AzTransplant: I definitely support Jefferson and it’s not because he is an ex-Arizona player. I covered his recruiting process and spoke to his mother, who is very religious — remember she didn’t like the thought of Jefferson playing at ASU or Duke because they have “Devils” in their nickname? He told Dan Patrick that he decided to go this route in order to avoid a divorce 6 months down the road. Rest assured, Jefferson did not make this decision on his own. I’m sure he consulted those close to him, including his family, before pulling the plug on the wedding. I know many people personally who I wish would have done the same thing.
