This is a continuation of WILDABOUTAZCATS.com’s countdown to Arizona’s football season-opener vs. Central Michigan at Arizona Stadium on Sept. 5.  Quarterback, Dan White (1993-95). Another No. 16, Ortege Jenkins, has the “Leap by the Lake,” but White has the Fiesta Bowl victory over Miami and was superb in three consecutive wins over ASU (in which he had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 7:1). It is ironic that White, a transfer from Penn State, was 3-0 against the Sun Devils, who once featured their own Danny White at quarterback. Dan White was steady enough to help the Wildcats to a 10-2 record in 1993 and a share of the Pac-10 title with UCLA. The Bruins won the tie-breaker for the Rose Bowl by virtue of their head-to-head victory over the Wildcats that season. |
ARIZONA’S CURRENT NO. 16: Mark Watley, DB, Soph., 6-0, 170, Encino (CA) Crespi Carmelite HS. Young defender who will work for rotation play in the secondary, likely at safety. Has worked at corner, too. Coaches’ scout team player of the week for the UCLA game during his redshirt freshman season in 2008. Coaches signed Watley a week after national signing date in February `08. Opened his first camp at safety. Another No. 16 belongs to recruited walk-on freshman quarterback Andrew McDonald, son of former USC All-American quarterback Paul McDonald.
