47 days and counting to Miller Time (Nov. 15 vs. NAU)

Olson’s UA players earned 47 All-Pac-10 honors

DAY47

By Javier Morales

All you need to know about the UA basketball program with 47 days remaining until the Wildcats’ season-opener with NAU at McKale Center:

  • During the Lute Olson era, UA players earned All-Pac-10 honors 47 times. The three-time All-Pac-10 selections from Arizona under Olson: Sean Elliott (1986-89), Damon Stoudamire (1992-95) and Michael Wright (1998-2001).
  • It’s no wonder that Fred Snowden despised coaching at The Pit at New Mexico because of the home-cooking brewed by WAC refs there. Olson was the same way, vowing to never return to Albuquerque following a 1996 game that got so out of hand Olson took off his sports coat in disgust. The Lobos made 47 free throws in a game at The Pit on Feb. 26, 1979 — the most by any UA opponent in the program’s history.
  • Linc Richmond‘s 428 points in 1946-47 was a single-season school record at the time, eclipsed by Leon Blevins three years later (462).
  • Khalid Reeves‘ career field-goal percentage was 47.9 percent. His percentage without factoring in his three-point attempts (489) is an impressive 53.7 percent. This further proves that Reeves might have been the best UA player other than Sean Elliott to drive to the basket and make plays happen.
  • Former UA guard Jason Gardner holds the UA record for most minutes played in an NCAA tournament game: 47 minutes played in the classic double-overtime win over Gonzaga on March 22, 2003.
