WEEK NINE: Pac-10 and Top 25 Matchups

Picking games getting too easy it seems

By Javier Morales

Football

Ten people went 6-0 last week, which begs the question: Is the Pac-10 getting too predictable and why does it seem that Top 25 matchups are lacking?

We’re averaging about one Top 25 matchup a week outside of the Pac-10 games. In my opinion, that means conferences such as the SEC and Big 12 are down this year. And, yes, the Pac-10 is so predictable that you can now bet on Washington State and UCLA losing their next game without much hesitation.

This all means a suspenseful matchup between the lowly Bruins and Cougars looms at Pullman on Nov. 14.

Keith Jackson, a Wazzu alum, can not be enthused about what’s going on with his alma mater. Another Keith Jackson — as far as we know it is not the legendary broadcaster — went 6-0 in our picks last week.

The_dude was the_man, distancing himself from the other 6-0 finalists with a predicted point-differential of only eight points. He predicted Arizona to beat UCLA 34-14. The Cats won 27-13. This week’s slate only has five games — four involving Pac-10 teams and another lone Top 25 matchup between Texas and Oklahoma State. USC-Oregon figures to be a classic and it’s our tiebreaker game because Arizona is idle this week. Please predict the score of that game in the commentary section.

Pick Note: If you miss more than two weeks of picks, you are ineligible for the season standings.

  1. conundrumz Says:

Autzen will be rockin’ but USC will do the talkin’ with solid defense:
    USC 24
    Oregon 17

  2. Portland Catfan #2 Says:

Can’t wait to see this one. If UO blows this:

    UO 31 USC 24

  3. Twosp2 Says:

This game is going to be a great game I believe as well. I just think USC has to many athletes and overall coaching. I am thinking USC 31 and Oregon 27.

  4. Boguscat Says:

USC 36 Oregon 21 – This should be a great game…with Trojan defense making the difference.

  5. Colorado Mark Says:

Big game. USC will pull it out in the end. I like the Trojans winning giving the Cats the chance to unseat them. An Oregon win really puts them in the drivers seat and it is tough to imagine them stumbling late if they get past SC.

    USC 34
    UO 31

  6. Ashton Says:

Vegas has SC as three point favorites. Lets see what vegasallen has to say this week.

    USC – 36
    Oregon -17

USC always seem to show up for the big games, so I’m going with a “beatdown” score.

  7. DON A Says:

Oregon takes this one at home. Oregon’s offense takes advantage of SC’s late defensive breakdowns. Oregon 31 USC 28

  8. Catman Says:

    Oregon 35
    USC 31

  9. Jimmy Says:

    Oregon 24
    USC 17

  10. H M-R Says:

    Oregon 14
    USC 10

Sloppy cold weather. USC won’t perform consistently on offensive. Oregon scores a late TD to win. I see the defenses dominating because of the rain and cold.

  11. Wildcat-Duck Says:

A lot of you are just living in the past. It is a new era and the Ducks are a team of destiny.

    Ducks – 38
    Spoiled Children – 17

  12. JT Says:

Defense takes the week off and the home crowd makes it tough on SC.
    Oregon 45
    USC 34

  13. Ashton Says:

Weather looks like it will support a passing game. Maybe a little damp on the running game.

  14. the_dude Says:

super tough game to pick. i can’t decide which teams will show up…on one hand USC is supposed to win these games. they’re seemingly infallible in top10 match-ups. but oregon is as HOT as they come. i’ve been to autzen and it’s as crazy a place as there is. barkley was good enough in the ‘shoe…can he put up enough points to win this one????

i feel like this one will be won in the 1st quarter, not the 4th…oregon jumps out early and wins with flair…UO 36–23 USC

  15. vegasallen Says:

Most here think the total will go over the posted line of 47. I don’t.

    UO 24-17

  16. vegasallen Says:

Must see TV: Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach makes some comments that could never fly in Tucson, or outside of Texas for that matter.

In the second video he invents a new word “conversate”.

  17. drivera Says:

vegasallan- do you know what the spread and over/under are for the red blue game?

  18. Javier M. Says:

Oregon wins the cheerleader battle hands down (and yes I know we’re talking USC here — the Ducks’ cheerleaders are that special — best in the Pac-10, maybe the nation) … But in terms of the game, this is always the spot where USC and Pete Carroll shine …the mid- to late-season game with something on the line. I say USC wins by more than a TD: 34-23.

  19. Anthony G. Says:

This is the kind of big game USC wins. Could be a thriller, though, because the Trojans’ defense hasn’t been able to slam the door on Notre Dame or Oregon State in the past two weeks. USC 35, Oregon 30.
