Everything you wanted to know about the UA basketball program with only 7 days remaining until the season-opening tipoff against NAU on Nov. 15:

  • Lute Olson was selected a conference coach of the year nine times in his career, including seven times in the Pac-10.
  • Nic Wise was forced to miss seven games as a sophomore after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. It is his longest time off the court since he became a regular contributor that season.
  • After Steve Kerr heard chants of “PLO, PLO, PLO” by ASU’s fans in classless reference to his father’s assassination in Lebanon, he nailed his first seven shots (six three-pointers) in Tempe for 20 first-half points on Feb. 27, 1988.
  • Under Fred Enke‘s direction, Arizona won 12 Border Conference championships, including a span in which the Cats won or shared seven consecutive Border Conference titles (1942-51). No Border Conference team won as many league games (231) or overall contests (398) during Arizona’s membership.
  • Olson coached seven teams that went undefeated at home during a season.
  • Chase Budinger, who is turning heads in the NBA right now, was the 2007 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, the fifth Wildcat to earn that honor. Can you name the others? Answer: Sean Elliott in 1985-86, Mike Bibby 1996-97, Michael Wright 1998-99 and Salim Stoudamire 2001-02.

    UCLA gets another injury. Perhap we are lucky to open with them early in the hope they are not quite in sink due to lack of playing time…..
