Start planning on getting crazy; GameDay is coming

ESPN GameDay is bringing its popular Saturday morning pregame show to Tucson this week for the Arizona-Oregon game.

Even with Arizona’s loss at Cal on Saturday, the UA-Oregon matchup is still for control of the league race and is the best game of the day. Although ESPN on Sunday morning was still promoting the falsehood that Arizona’s loss meant that only Oregon was in the driver’s seat, the reality is that both teams are in the same position — win out and they will go to the Rose Bowl to play Big Ten champ Ohio State.

This will be the first appearance ever for GameDay in Tucson.

The big question: Will Lee Corso put on a Wilbur the Wildcat mascot head or an Oregon duck head to signify his pick to win? Also, view our poll above. Who should be the guest prognosticator with Arizona ties? A couple of weeks ago when Oregon hosted USC, College Gameday had NIKE CEO Phil Knight as the predictor. If you have a different name in mind than what’s in the poll, write about it in the comments section below.

I’m not a big fan of football but watch College Gameday anyway and will be at the show, should be fun.

  2. zangerdanger Says:

does anyone know of a free web stream of the zona bball game today?

  3. TerraCat Says:

I don’t know of a free web stream. But the paid subscription is supposed to have a radio stream. I say supposed to because it isn’t working for me. I am getting the GameTracker, but I keep getting “media unavailable” for the radio stream. Sigh.

  4. mike Says:

It’s great that gameday is coming. We got knocked out of the rankings though….don’t know that on paper it’s the best game of the week. It certainly is, based on rose bowl implications…just saying. I think furd went up to like 13 or so….Sigh.

  5. Anthony G. Says:

Hopefully, we’ll see Sean Miller for, like, the next 20 years. I don’t need to see him on GameDay. I voted for Jennie.

And another thing: How about dispatching ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi to Tucson??? That sounds like a good idea to me.

  6. lutefan Says:

okay since there hasn’t been a post yet on the NAU game I just want to say….

    1. I owe Hill an apology… he was great.
    2. Rebounding was much better
    3. We had 8 players with double-digit minutes
    4. Defense… eh… wil get better.
    5. Dang Parrom… we’ll miss you bud.

I’m very hopeful for more good things. Good job Cats.

  7. lutefan Says:

Gimino… Bruschi was my first thought.

  8. Javier M. Says:

I might be mistaken but I believe Bruschi has already made a guest appearance on GameDay this year.

  9. zangerdanger Says:

to follow up on lutefan’s post of the NAU-zona game:

i am psyched that hill had a great game. i have read some posts prior to this game that seamed overly critical of hill’s game. i personally think he is one of the best in the freshmen class. his vision on the court, and dribbling skills are superb. i think he is going to be a monster this year. in fact, parrom’s injury may make the team better because it gives hill a chance to polish his skills while parrom heals.

Oh boy, it’s a mixed bag.

Wise, Horne and Fogg cannot – cannot – wait to lead.

Vocally, by example, from tip-off to buzzer – it’s got to start now and it has to be consistent.

The 3 ball must be defended or we’re in for a longer season than anticipated.

Famous is at S. Florida (and after today I see why Coach Miller & Co. put so much effort into getting him to come west) and the ‘Cats are left with Kyryl and Alex, but it could be a lot worse.

Parrom plays bigger than his 6-6, 6-7, and more like 6-8, 6-9 with his grit and determination on D and in his ‘boarding, so let’s all hope he’s back and not still in rehab in 6-8 weeks.

But man, can you imagine Horne, Williams, Hill playing next to an experienced, go-to C?

Props to the McKale crowd, to the overall team for keeping the ‘Jacks, who will contend in the Big Sky, at a 16-20 point bay, and, to Coach M.& Co. for getting off to a good start.

Hopefully doing battle vs. Rice on Thursday holds more fervor for these guys than beating up on their brethren from Flagstaff.

Got to give Coach Ade & Co. credit for coming down and giving the ‘Cats a game, and credit as well goes out to UA, AD Livengood and Coach M. for keeping NAU on the schedule year in and year out.

And yes, if we must be subjected to Marques Johnson, Tim Kempton, Sam Williams, Don McClean, Michael Eaves, Petros Papadakis, Tommy Maddux, Craig Ehlo, Anthony Davis, etc, etc, I say please give us John Fina, Glenn Howell, Corey Williams, Matt Muehlbach and Bob Elliott already!

Can someone please tell us what a prognisticator is?

Might this recent news maker whose Dad is in the ‘Cat Sports Hall of Fame be a good candidate?

  12. 1AtATime...'N'Roses! Says:

Check that. Grand Dad Ed Nymeyer is in the UA Basketball Hall of Fame.

  13. Portland Catfan #2 Says:

Just saw the ticker on ESPN Classic (watching the 95 cats beat the Hoyas…what a team)…Dick Tomey to retire. Come on home coach and settle into the foothills. We’ll keep the light on for ya..

  14. Anthony G. Says:

Foothills are nice, but I’m pretty sure Tomey will be heading to the islands to retire.

To Dick Tomey: Happy retirement and thanks for the memories (TucsonCitizen.com)

  15. Javier M. Says:

We had to reset the poll because of an error. Please make your selection again. Thanks.

  16. H M-R Says:

The vocal leader while on the floor during the game was B-Lav. It was interesting to watch him huddle the team before free throws and while leaving the floor for a time out. He was the one gesturing and talking — Motivating!

Jamelle and Nic just don’t seem to have that capability in their personality.

  17. Javier M. Says:

Here is another possibility as a guest on GameDay (thanks to azgood for bringing her up earlier): 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year Lacey Nymeyer

  18. Chris C. Says:

    Tedy Bruschi

  19. Bleez Says:

    College Gameday Site= OLD MAIN

  20. 1AtATime...'N'Roses! Says:

NCAA Sportswoman of the Year, Olympian, ‘Cat swimmer, Tucsonan, Grand Dad a UA Sports Hall of Famer – what else is there?

She’s got charisma and knows her sports, and Finch & Co. have had their time in the sun.

It’s got to be Lacey Nymeyer picking the scores and giving her team good luck!
