| Excerpt of New York Magazine article about former UA player Jordan Hill:
It’s worth lamenting just how desperately the Knicks needed someone like Brandon Jennings. He would have been the center of the franchise, and he would have electrified the Garden: Fans would want to get out there just to see this crazy new rookie scoring like the dickens. The Knicks might not have won more games — though you’d have to think they’d manage three or four wins, right? — but they would be relevant, the way the Bucks are now. It would have legitimized everything Walsh and D’Antoni have done, or tried to do. Instead, we have Jordan Hill. Jennings wanted to come here, too. How do we know this? Because after the Knicks passed on him, he said, explicitly, “(blank) the Knicks.” Please read the rest of the article: Brandon Jennings: What might have been (NYMag.com) |

Jordan Hill doesn’t suck. The Knicks suck. They don’t know how to utilize personnel. They did the same thing with Frye. Sure Frye and Hill are never going to be dominant NBA big men…but they can be productive when placed in the right organization. See Frye in PHX.

Hill would be the best big man in college if he stayed… but he was a lotto pick. I wouldn’t have chosen him that high. He will be a great NBA player when he gets in the right situation but probably a bad choice by the Knicks. Not Jordan’s fault though that people want to pick him in the lottery. New York fans are idiots.

Whoever is blasting Hill is an idiot. He played OK when he got a chance. Jennings is looking good…but of course he is putting up good numbers because he has the ball in his hand 90% of the time (the Bucks other good player? Bogut…who is hurt again). Would Jennings be able to put up those numbers playing for NYC? No way, not with all those egos on the roster. If they want their own Jennings, they should just give the ball to Nate Robinson 90% of the time…probably similar results. Flashy performance, huge numbers…few wins.

Gotta say as a Cats fan and Knicks fan, I was pretty depressed on draft day when the Knicks took Jordan. The biggest reason is that the Knicks needed (still need) a point guard and the draft was loaded with them. Of course Milwaukee took two point guards and GS took Curry (I hate you Don Nelson), so the Knicks took the best player available. I still would have been happier with Jennings or even Lawson. Just fit the need better (it is tough to put into words how badly Chris Duhon stinks).
From Jordan’s side, I knew he was going into a bad situation for him. He was still a inexperienced player who had difficulties with fouls and defense (remember, because of fouls, he had not played man-to-man for a year). The Knicks fans were expecting immediate help, especially since next year’s sure to be lottery pick was traded for Starbury (I really really hate you Isaiah Thomas), and Jordan likely was not going to provide it. Worse yet, they tried to sell him as a Amare Stoudemire type player in D’Antoni’s system. Therefore, I knew that a slow start would have the fans and the NY media on him.
Hopefully, with the Knicks 2-9 and with a roster full of guys they are clearing out of there for the 2010 free agent sweepstakes, D’Antoni will decide to give Jordan minutes. And hopefully, Jordan will produce. Maybe Toney Douglas will be good too, and I can get Brandon Jennings out of my life once and for all.

Lutefan, I have to defend myself and fellow Knick fans. We are not (all) idiots. We are just frustrated. Having Dave Checketts and Isaiah Thomas as your last two GMs and James Dolan as your owner will do that to people.
Amazingly, last October, the Knicks and the Cats were in very similar situations. Both were left with a roster that did not look fixable until the fall of 2010 due to various circumstances (Knicks – salary cap, Isaiah; Cats – coaching instability, loss of recruits). We are very lucky that we got Sean Miller and the five recruits. The Knicks weren’t so lucky. In October 2009, I thought I was looking at 2 seasons of basketball hell, pro and college. At least I have the Cats to look forward to.

Everyone and his grandmother was selling Hill as a projected NBAer, someday making it big based on his ability to apply himself and learn and, eventually, produce.
This is a cat (and ‘Cat) who after all didn’t start playing organized basketball until his, what, junior year in high school?
We all knew he had a ways to go with his footwork (two left feet syndrome), his being a liability on D (head fakes are a dime a dozen in the league; JH best get used to them) and his penchant for getting fouled but missing from the Charity Stripe (once he makes them pay, he’ll play).
It’s amazing to me that a team with so much history, a storied program in NBA annals, the Knicks would now act as if they all along had Jordan on some kind of fast track to the All Star game or, better, the title chase.
C’mon, New York, I know it’s tough to do in a place where the term NY Minute originated, but let’s try and be a little patient.
Hill will get there.
And he’ll bring the Knickerbockers with him.
