The first quarter of the NBA season for ex-UA players — and former signee Brandon Jennings — was filled with highlight performances as the accompanying video suggests (three former Cats and an ex-recruit involved in the top five plays of the day)

Arizona’s current team might be struggling, but most of its former players are carrying the flag for coach Sean Miller in the NBA. None of them played for Miller, of course, but they are providing the coach a good example for potential recruits on the benefits of attending Arizona.

With more of a recruiting budget — and bigger name of Arizona vs. Xavier in recent college hoops history — Miller figures to continue Arizona’s trend of producing NBA talent.

What’s your opinion of the top story thus far among ex-UA players in the NBA? Gilbert Arenas’ strong return from a knee injury? Andre Iguodala’s numerous SportsCenter moments, including the length-of-the-court heave that did not count? Channing Frye’s coming out party, especially from three-point land with the hometown Suns? Chase Budinger’s surprising emergence as a second-round draft pick with the Rockets? Mike Bibby and Jason Terry still factors in the league 13 years after winning the NCAA title? Richard Jefferson’s struggles with the Spurs? Jerryd Bayless’ rumors of wanting to be traded from Portland? Jordan Hill’s unproductive rookie season with the Knicks?

  1. lutefan Says:

    Javier,

My opinion is that we need these guys (ex UA, NBA players) to start recruiting for us more demonstratively…. if that is possible.

  2. AzGood! Says:

Wow. This is some pretty tight, well chronicled coverage, Jay and ‘Tone. Man, how can you pick one top story when the story of them all is that they are all ‘Cats and all, as you say, are carrying the Cardinal and Navy flag for ‘Cats past, present and future, babe. From Arenas and Iggy to C-Bud and J-Hill, whether they’re on the court, taking notes from the pine, rehabbing in the training room or doing time on the practice court, they have a message Miller & Co. must figure out a way of tapping into and then transferring it to the recruiting trail as lutefan suggests.

Seriously, Javier and Anthony, this list of pros from Tucson you so well detail has got to be as stellar as any list UNC, Michigan St. or U Conn can come up with. How do we parlay this notoriety, this work done by UA coaches and players, this perfect task completed by you all into a much-needed PG-SG or PF-C saying I’m coming to the Old Pueblo to play for Coach and with the boys? How about we take a list of top recruits UA is after now and we all start a massive letter to the sports editor, or letter to that particular HS player’s coach, campaign in those cities they hail from pointing up the great things happening and to happen in the Miller High Life era, leaving our signature with WILDABOUTAZCATS.com as our final sign-off? Jay and ‘Tone, when you guys speak with potentials do they say they read WILDABOUAZCATS.com?
