Arizona coach Mike Stoops has received a commitment from one of the top linebackers in Texas. Rob Hankins from Dallas becomes the seventh player to commit this month.

Hankins is considered the 24th-best player in Texas by Scout.com, and the ninth-best middle linebacker in the nation. ESPNU and Rivals.com also rate Hankins No. 9 nationally among inside linebackers.

He also had offers from Miami, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Missouri, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Cal, Texas Tech and many others.

With Hankins and Canyon del Oro running back Ka’Deem Carey, Stoops has landed two Rivals.com four-star recruits in the past 10 days.

Way to Bear Down on the recruiting trail, Coach!

Remember when people were all ready to fire Stoops after 2 years? I hope they feel stupid now.

Fixing a program that was as damaged as Arizona was takes time. Now, the program has turned the corner and having some actual success again. And the bigger recruits are trickling in.

Provided we don’t lose Stoops- Arizona is looking very poised to take advantage of what could be a power outage from the recently dominant programs in the PAC-10 (thinking of USC and Oregon).

Stoops should be applauded for his efforts. Well done Coach.

Wow, this is really great news. Stoops is just killing it this year on the recruiting trail! Looks like he’s putting us in a solid position to be competitive in the new conference. I love how he’s stocking the roster with solid talent from top to bottom. Having the deep talent really helped us out at the running back spot last year. I really like what Coach Stoops is doing here!

Not that I agree or disagree but just a note to blueleaf11….. I don’t think the ability to recruit, or the effort put for on the field were ever in question with Stoops. He has been good at those things from day one. It was his game day coaching ability and readiness to be a head coach (rather than a cooridinator) which were called into question by most.

it looks as if Stoops has put it together. This is a first for me I have never been this pumped for football to start. I wish i was hearing good news from bball too.

@drivera: Fair enough, I will agree I remember a good amount of that.

I seem to remember a bunch of people criticizing him without that justification as well, not so much on these message boards but more on ESPN and the Tucson papers, especially after tight losses (think the Cal game with the infamous double pass, or really any of the losses in the last couple years).

Their argument always went something like: “the only reason the Cats are any good at all is because of Sonny, not ‘Stoopid’. He is a control freak and keeps screwing things up when he tries to call the game, he needs to be fired” etc etc etc.

It just got really, really old refuting them constantly and reminding anyone of just how awful the Mackovic years were.

im sure yall saw pgu is reporting dela has been kicked off the team. really effing disappointing

  8. Javier M. Says:

Justin: Although it appears Delashaun Dean is in trouble, nothing has been confirmed of a dismissal or suspension officially from Arizona.

  9. Portland Catfan #2 Says:

rivals reporting the same on Dela. what a shame

  10. drivera Says:

Even if it is all true, receiver is our deepest position. Dean was a strong threat in the red zone and no doubt would have been on the field. However, Criner is the stud of the group and Roberts, Wright and the incoming class (inlcuding JC transfer who appear to be Pac 10 ready). It is a shame if this is true, but it is probably the one position where we can most afford it to happen.
