*Raised: Laguna Niguel, CA
*Current: Dallas (trying to get back to AZ)
*Graduated: Journalism 06
*Profession: Property Management
*Interests: I love everything about UA. I went to watch sports and meet girls and earned a degree as a bonus. I was always enamored with UA basketball as a kid growing up while attending UCLA games. I remember the 97 run. The upset of Kansas was special and from there I just had a feeling they could ride the momentum to a championship. I attended the 98 Holiday Bowl and remember how great that team was. As a junior in high school I remember watching the 2001 Final Four and feeling it was the only time a sporting event was truly fixed. While I'm a huge basketball fan, I'm a bigger football fan and season ticket holder and feel Mike Stoops hasn't been getting the credit he deserves for the turnaround of a program that was the worst in the BCS. I like the big two but went to plenty of baseball, softball, and Ice Cats games. I covered sports for UATV and did play-by-play for KAMP radio my last two years in school.
*Attendance: When I came to UA I really learned what it meant to be a Wildcat... Heartbreak. I was at the Honda Center when Jason Gardner's 3 hit the back iron in 03. That hurt. That was UA's best team. I subsequently had tickets aligned for the Final Four in 03 and 05. Oops. While the football team struggled it was nice to be there for the upsets of UCLA, Cal, and Oregon. Seeing the victory over ASU and Vegas Bowl win was special and a corner turner. Being there for this years game against Oregon was a gut wrencher and I'm sure there will be plenty more of those to come in the future. I also was there for the epic 3-game series in the 04 Super Regional against Long Beach St., with the 5-run rally in Game 1 and extra inning sac fly in Game 3 to end the World Series drought.
I look forward to being at many more UA sporting events and having my heart broken.

Age: 33 (born 1976)
Gender: Male
Born and raised: Nogales, AZ
Currently: Phoenix
UA Grad? Yes in May 1998. Attended from 8/94 to 5/98
Profession: IT (Application and Web Developer)
Interests regarding UA sports: I started following U of A sports in the mid 80's. I am very passionate about the basketball and football teams and really enjoy watching the softball and baseball teams. I would mortgage my house to go to the Rose Bowl if I couldn't afford it.
UA sporting event I remember most: I remember the football (vs ASU) and basketball streaks and the victories against Miami and Nebraska in football. I also have moments I can't seem to get out of my head like the football loses to Cal (1991) and UCLA (1998) and of course the loss to Illinois when I cried at the bar I was watching the game. Every time I think of those three games, I try to remember the 1997 tournament and that seems to temporarily heal the wounds.

I'm 62, born in Albany, NY, raised in Roscoe, NY, have lived for nearly 29 years in Kemmerer, WY. I think athletic sucess adds to the stature and reputation of the University. I remember the Wyoming football game in 1975. We feel way behind, made a furious comeback but feel short unable to get the ball back in the last minutes of the game. Also, I remember the Utah basketball game in SLC during Olson's third season at Arizona. I got to meet him, have a beer with him and talk basketball.
I am a 71 year old Tucson native, born at St. Mary's Hospital on April 18, 1938. I lived in Tucson the first 24 years of my life. I graduated from the U of A in 1960 with a B.S. in Physical Education and then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 1962 and then moved to San Diego where I have lived ever since. I taught sixth grade in San Diego City Schools for 7 years and served as a vice-principal at the elementary level for two years and a principal at both the elementary and secondary levels up until my retirement in 1999.I feel fortunate to have lived my life in a world of children, a world that represents what hope there is for a better tomorrow. What interests me most about the Wildcats' overall athletic program is the high quality of the program, how it's progressed over the years since my childhood (my knothole gang years), how its widely respected throughout the country. I stand tall and proud as an old Wildcat. The UA sporting event I remember the most is one wherein I set a record that has lasted almost 50 years, 46 points in a basketball game in old Bear Down Gym. It was truly a magic moment for me and my teammates who probably are still suffering from restless arm syndrome feeding me the ball.Another vivid memory is watching Bobby Thompson, the General, and Joe Hernandez run circles around ASU in'61 or '62 on their football field.

Born and raised: Globe, AZ

UA attendance: Attended UA from 8/89 through 5/91 and returned in the late '90s, but didn't graduate. I got a bachelor's degree from a local tech school, but I'm getting ready to go back to UA, and finish up my degree there. I'll probably start next summer. I'm a 2nd semester junior at this point.
Employment: I currently work for the University in the IT field.
Interests regarding UA sports: I was raised a Wildcat fan. My dad grew up in San Manuel, so he was close enough to Tucson to be a died-in-the-wool Arizona fan. Arizona football was my first love. I got into basketball later, during Sean Elliott's playing years.
UA sporting event I remember most: I took my daughter up to Tempe to see the 'Cats play during Salim's senior year. It was the game he won at the end (yes, he may have shuffled his feet). Later, I could see why ASU fans might be a bit pissed about the call. At the time, though, it was an amazing feeling to be there to see the 'Cats cut the Devils' hearts out.

I went to the u of a between 1978-1982, graduating in June'82.
Live in Los Angeles. I follow the basketball program, although I played on the 1978 U of A team, sirst year in the Pac-10.
My all-time favorite U of A sporting event is when the Arizona basketball teams 1st game in the Pac-10 was UCLA, January 1979. School was not yet back in session, I had just driven back to Tucson from St Louis with my girlfriend. We beat UCLA, crashed the floor and it was a wild night, a Thursday night and no school until the next week. They also beat USC on saturday to cap off an improbable week in U of A history.

I was born in Scottsdale but raised in Southeastern Idaho and Central Illionis. I currently am a student at the U of A majoring in special education and math. I have been a lifelong U of A basketball fan and follow softball and swimming and diving(I do not like American Football). The most memorable in U of A sporting event for me would be the 2003 second round game vs. Gonzaga. My wife and I just started dating at the begining of the season (at that time she was not a basketball fan) and a friend of hers was getting married in Veags during the 1st weekend of the tournament. So she sat with me at ESPNZone the entire day and that was when I knew she would be my wife and we have made the trip to Vegas every year since.
I've been a basketball and football fan since 1964. I love the Wildcats.

52 years, born in AZ, lived in Tucson since I was 3 and have never moved away.
I work in the telecommunications field.
I love all Wildcat sports but my passion really comes out for Wildcat Basketball. I can't help it.
I think for me the most incredible - at the time - play I ever witnessed was when Kenny Lofton made his behind the back jam.

Born in Tucson, and lived there until FORCED to move to Phoenix by my Parents at the age of 7. Live in the Phoenix Metro area, because this is where the jobs are.
My husband and I own a business, property management, and prefer to only have Wildcat's a part of our company.
We have season tickets and attend all of the games for football. My dream, as is every other UofA fans, to attend the Rose Bowl, and cheer on the Cat's for a victory.
Best memories are being at the game that Chuck Cecil ran the interception for a TD against asu. Also, following the basketball team to Birmingham and seeing them beat Kansas and Providence! Any time we beat asu is a GREAT memory. As my license plate says "PU ASU"

I live for UA basketball, and its nice to follow the football team too.
I went to family weekend in fall 2001 when I was a senior in high school and my brother was a sophomore. I had a few friends with me and we partied with my brother and his friends before the football game. We sat in the student section with him and the game went to triple OT (though I cant remember the opponent, may have been Wash. St.). We won and rushed the field, and I was convinced UA was where I belonged.

I have 2 favorite sporting moments: #1 of course is the 1997 national championship game. #2 UofA beating top 10 UCLA in 2005 something like 52-14 and then storming the field afterwords. I really thought at that moment that UofA was going to be going to a Rose Bowl within the next couple of seasons. Unfortunately that was not the case but hopefully a Rose Bowl is still in the cards for Coach Stoops. My life won't be complete until I get to go to a Rose Bowl game with UofA in it.

Born in Louisiana in 1960, semi-native Tucsonan since 1970 -Living on Tucson's eastside. Logistics Mgr. at Raytheon.
I have been a diehard UofA football fanatic since Larry Smith's first season. I became a huge hoops fan when Olson arrived shortly thereafter. Became disenchanted when Tomey left and was downright embarassed when "you know who" ran the program. However, the hiring of Stoops lit my fire again and I have pretty much been on afterburner (yes, very frustrated as well) since. This is going to be an incredible fall/winter for fans like me. I'm cautiously optimistic, yet beyond excited about football. At the same time, I can't wait for the Sean Miller era to commence - but I will only devote 100% of my attention to hoops once football finishes out. I am one of those fans that dreams of the newly expanded/modernized Arizona stadium being a packed venue with tickets as difficult to get as hoops were when Olson was at the top of his coaching game. Can't wait!

I have been a Cat's BBall fan since moving to Tucson. I also enjoy several other UofA sports, such as football and softball. I have seen a lot of home BBall games over the years, but probably the most memorable game for me was in 2005 when we beat, then No. 7 in country, UCLA 52-14, after several years of bad Arizona football. It felt cathartic and you knew things were on the mend for Arizona football (even if it still took three more seasons to get there).

My name is Clay Emery, born in Phoenix but grew up in the little town of Safford. I became a fan of the Cats when Lute began to bring his team to rural AZ for his Blue and Red Scrimmages in the mid 80's. I have been in Southern California for the past ten plus years but have recently returned to my home town where I serve the community in the public schools. My most memorable experience in attending an Arizona event was not even in AZ. I have a relative who coaches at BYU and was able to score tickets for the Arizona BYU basketball game back in 1999, just after the departure of Bibby, Dickerson and Simon. Jason Terry and the rest of the Cats pulled the game off in overtime to a very hostile crowd, especially after Gene Edgerson delivered a stron elbow to the face of a BYU player. My tickets just happened to be in the season ticket holder section, where I was wearing my AZ gear and almost was run out of the building.

Grad & post-grad from other schools, but wife, daughters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, attended U of A. 37 years of public service starting with Tucson Fire.
Memories: Watching the Cardiac Cats win Baseball championships (Francona, Lofton years), watching (in person) the Larry Smith FB team (Tunicliff/Hunley era) beat #1 USC (away) on national TV, watching those 80's & 90's UA/UCLA bb games that would go down to the wire. Tailgating on the mall; Chicago Bar & Sam Taylor; Sabino Canyon in 70's.

Does anybody on here have any advice on how to get accepted at the UA or what they looking for in potential students?
Born: Evanston, IL (in the burbs)

I am still sadly located in IL.
Hopeful future UA student.

UA Basketball fan living in Washington! I have not missed a UA vs. UW basketball game since 1988 here in Seattle I am one of the few dressed in red screaming for the Cats! I like your site I think it is way better than Pascoe's on the AZ star. I have complained that Seattle sports blogg coverage is way better than Arizona's. Seattle times has a great UW football and Basketball blogg. Your site is awesome I like hearing more about BB than FB thought. Keep it up you are getting better!

Age 35, born and raised in Tucson, AZ. Lived in Atlanta from '93 - '94 and Phoenix from 1999 - 2001. Attended University of Arizona from 1995 - '97, but did not graduate. As a child watching Max Zendejas and the Wildcats beat up on ASU became a family tradition. The buzz around local-boy Sean Elliot signing with U of A is what got me to start watching basketball games regularly.
Most lasting memories from games I attended are U of A football over Washingtong in 1992, 1998 Holiday Bowl, 2008 Las Vegas Bowl, NCAA 1st/2nd Round games in Salt Lake City in 2000.
My best memory has to be the last-second win at ASU in '98 when JT hit what turned out to be the game winning shot, then defended Eddie "Brick" House in the final 1.5 seconds. I rushed the court with the 3 co-eds I took up to the game. I ended up in front of the TV camera with my big foam UofA #1 hand, surrounded by UofA Cheerleaders. That's the closest a Wildcat Fan can get to Heaven while in Tempe!

Never forget the UA/ASU game in 1984, days after Steve Kerrs father was assasinated in Beirut. I've been lucky to have attended a few great moments in sports history (Maris 61 homer, Milt Pappas perfect game on fathers day, Heidi bowl) but nothing compared to that game. The atmosphere was thick with such grief, sorrow, fans openly crying during the moment of silence, the show of love/concern between the players (from both teams) and the carthatic impact of witnessing a great basketball game played under difficult circumstances. I became a lifetime U of A fan that night.
Just have to add,I was moving into a new house on Mabel st.,about 1 1/2 miles from UA stadium during the 1986 UA/ASU game. Had the game on TV, in the backround, and was startled as I heard the roar of the crowd, sounding like a frieght train rumbling thru the neighborhood (Chuck Cecil's int. return). YES, I found my new home in Wildcat Country.

I was born 15 December 1953 in Jackson, Michigan where I grew up and went to Jackson High School. I started in broadcasting at WIBM radio when I was 17.
I currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona.
I graduated from Arizona in 1977 with a BA in journalism and political science.
I am a professor of business/i.t. at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix.
I am interested in winning obviously, but winning the right way. I want kids to go to school, get degrees, and be good people.
Probably the #1 Arizona sporting event I went to was the Arizona at Notre Dame football game in South Bend. The winning Max Zendejas field goal went off my finger tips in the end zone. I've never seen so many Wildcats so emotional after winning that game. Walking out of the Notre Dame stadium, I started to SCREAM Bear Down Arizona and it spread throughout the stadium... gives me chills to think about even now.

What interests you most about the Wildcats’ overall athletic program? The passion.
Which UA sporting event that you attended do you remember the most? Probably the National Championship celebration at Arizona Stadium is the most unique event... but it's kind of tough to choose just one... there are soooo many.
I've been paying pretty close attention to the Cats since 1986, so I've never known a bad UA Basketball team. Likewise, I've never known a UA team without Coach Olson- up until this past year. So naturally, I was quite anxious about the choice for the next coach. It was the anticipation and anxiety of finding out who the next coach would be that drove me to Javier's website.
As far as football goes, I loved the Dick Tomey years of Arizona football as well, especially the big bowl wins over Miami and Nebraska and the streak against ASU. Like everyone else, I had a tough time with the Mackovic years, but I've been loving what Stoops has done ever since he got here (was in plenty of heated arguments over whether Stoops should have been fired 2 years ago, etc).
I still get goose bumps watching the replays of the Cecil interception, the National championship final moments, Salim hitting a 40 ft 3 pointer to win the game, the crowd yelling 'Steeeeve Keerrrrrrr' or 'Luuuuuute', and all the other special moments that make being a Wildcat so incredibly rewarding.

I'm 28 years old and was born, raised and still live in Tucson, Az. I love everything about the U of A sports. I remember going to games with my grandpa when I was too small to even realize that I was watching greatness. My best memory of a game was last season when we almost got rained out. Most of us stuck around for a great game. Wearing very fashionable trash bags we left the stadium very happy to have been a part of such an experience. The next day my husband and I were sick and had no voice but it was all worth it!

UA Grad from the class of 72. Followed the Wildcats in my youth in Phx on the radio going back to the days of Bobby Lee Thompson, Jackrabbit Joe Hernandez and Eddie Wilson. I'm a 63 year old bureaucrat. I want to go to the Rose Bowl game as an alum rather than just a FB fan once before I croak and I'm interested in seeing the UA expand that football stadium to give us a real Zona Zoo sound level throughout the stadium. My most memorable UA sporting event was in Freddie Snowden's first year when the Cats took on USC and Coniel Norman came off the bench to throw in about 25 or so from long range as the Cats won a 92-90 (or thereabouts) game.
I have been an avid UA fan since I enrolled in 1962 right out of high school in Yuma where I was raised since birth (1944). I graduated under-grad in 1966 and law school in 1969. As a Vietnam draftee, I served for 20 years in the US Army as a Judge Advocate General (JAGC) officer, retiring in 1990. I worked as a staff attorney for GEICO insurance from '90 to 2005 - DC and SoCal. I now live in Poway, CA (a north county community in San Diego).
As I have not lived in the Tucson area during my career (12 years overseas), I have not been in attendance for many events in recent years. I guess my most memorable events were Bruce Larson coached BB games in Beardown Gym.
I follow the 'Cats devotedly on the various message boards as PowayCat. I don't post often as I have very little access to real, pertinent news and I have no need to join into some of personality contests on the boards.

Overall I think the overall excellence of the athletic program keeps me on Wildcat web sites searhing for information. I still have my season basketball tickets (purchased in 1985). Have a friend who attends all the games since I have not been able to. Sean Elliot's game against UCLA in which he broke the scoring record and Chuck Cecil's return against ASU are the most remembered.

61 Yr old fed govt employee who was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. Grew up a UW Husky fan. Joined the Army and traveled extensively and accumulated college credits from all over. Settled in Southern AZ as a result of an Army assignment and changed my allegiance in the mid 1980s to UofA because of football tailgating and the success that Lute brought to the basketball program. I live in Sierra Vista and my wife and are are pals with a great bunch of tailgaters. My most memorable UofA sporting event (that I attended) was the Final Four in Minneapolis in 2001. I can't wait to do it again with Sean Miller as the coach.

BA in English 95
Work in the Energy biz
Bleed red and blue, always have always will. Grandparents lived a block from campus and would take me on walks around McKale during construction. Sat in the Knothole section as a youngster.
Most memorable events attended
The most obvious - Chuck Cecil's interception for a TD to win the game against ASU. Sean coming out in full chrome to break Alcindor's scoring record. Simply hearing the crowd chant Steve Kerr after a trey. Any time the ball was thrown anywhere near the Richard Dice. Chuck's big hits like the game saving goal line stop against the Ducks. Chuck Levy tearing up Miami in Tempe. The homecoming victory against UW.

Not a UA grad, might get there someday.
I work in the insurance industry.
When it comes to college sports, there is UA and there is everyone else.
Most memorable event that attended was the Lute Olson Basketball Camp.
Also had the oppourtunity to play a game of 5 on 5 with friends on Lute and Bobbi Olson Court....coolest thing I have ever done.
I am excited to see Sean Millers coaching ability and am very happy that he will continue the UA tradition. Lute always had players that played for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back. I look to see more of the same. Bear Down!

Age 30, Born in C. Cali, but raised (from age 3) in Tucson. Currently serving in the Army, stationed in Alabama.
The best thing about the overall athletics program at Arizona is the high level of competition throughout. I follow BBall and FBall closest, but also keep an eye on the Baseball/SBall teams, Golf programs and all the aquatic events.
My favorite event was the NC celebration after Lute and the boys cut down the nets in Indy (where I got to meet my idol, JT), but my fave game was in Seattle, in 2000 I think, when OJ flipped over the goal line for the winning TD (I felt like the only Cat fan in the building since I was down in the student section and TRULY feared for my life!)

He graduated from the U of A College of Law in 1996 and now practices law in town. He loves everything about Wildcat basketball, but most of all watching the recruits develop their potential.
My best U of A sporting event memories are of going to McKale with my now ex-wife when we were first together. She loved the electric atmosphere and I loved her delight at an experience that was so new and unexpected. We were a great hoops-watching couple. Unfortunately, 'twasn't enough to save the marriage.

I'm definitely most interested in following the UA hoops team, but I'm also a fan of the football, softball, swimming, baseball, and golf teams.
Greatest UA hoops memory was attending the 1997 national championship victory parade.
Greatest UA football moment was when we beat the undefeated UCLA team a few years back and seeing all the students rush the field.

I am a 23 year old born and raised in Tucson. I attended the U of A for two years and have recently transferred to San Diego State University to finish my degree and to pursue a masters degree in architecture. I am, have been and always will be a die hard Wildcat fan. I first found this site when search for the next basketball coach was the top story. Ever since I have been a regular visitor. Thank you for the continued research and writing.
23, born in Tucson, raised in Africa, Montreal, and Tucson. Currently living in Haifa, Israel. UA grad, 2009. The thing that has always interested me most is the basketball program, the culture and pride it has brought to Tucson, and the mark of consistency it has come to represent. The sporting event i remember most was either the comeback win against Texas A & M at McKale in the 07-08 season, or the defeat of Cal in the 07-08 football season.
